President Ruto Inspects Affordable Housing Project in Funyula, Busia County

2026-03-20

On March 18, H.E. President William Samoei Ruto, accompanied by Speaker Moses Masika Wetang'ula, visited the Funyula Affordable Housing Project (AHP) in Busia County, undertaken by China Jiangxi International, for an on-site inspection and survey. This was President Ruto’s second visit to the project to review the construction progress following his initial inspection in October 2025. Officials from relevant national government departments and Busia County authorities also accompanied the visit.

During the inspection, President Ruto toured the construction site and interior finishing areas, greeted the project construction team, and inquired into details of the construction progress, quality control, and local employment generation. He was deeply impressed by the project’s construction quality and construction progress and efficiency, and highly admired the project for creating more than 300 job opportunities for the local community.

President Ruto emphasized that the AHP is a core component of Kenya’s national affordable housing program and a major livelihood initiative for promoting balanced regional development. He noted that the project plays a vital role in addressing the housing challenges of local low-income groups, while boosting employment and driving local economic development. He encouraged the contractor to advance the project with consistently high standards and efficient construction progress, and strive to build it into a model livelihood project that effectively improves the living conditions of local residents.

To date, all the main structural works of the project have been fully completed. Masonry, plastering, and interior finishing works are approximately 50% completed, with all construction activities progressing in an orderly manner in line with the phased milestones and planned schedule.
