The Largest PV Project in Namibia is about to be Implemented

2024-09-11

On September 9, the China Jiangxi & CHINT Solar Joint Venture signed the contract of the EPC of the Rosh Pinah 100MW PV Project with Namibia Power Corporation Ltd. in the Capital city of Namibia, Windhoek.

The project is the largest renewable energy project to date in Namibia, located in the desert area of Rosh Pinah in the southern Karas region of Namibia, about 700 kilometers away from the capital. The main construction content of the project is to build a photovoltaic power station that is functionally complete, easy to operate, and convenient to maintain. Upon completion of the project, it is expected to generate more than 300 million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually, reduce carbon dioxide emissions by more than 250,000 tons per year, and meet nearly 10% of the country's electricity demand. The implementation of the project will significantly reduce Namibia's dependence on traditional coal-fired power generation, alleviate the country's electricity pressure, reduce reliance on electricity imports, enhance energy independence, and help the country achieve a diversified and upgraded transformation of its energy structure, continuously promoting the high-quality and sustainable development of the green economy.
