Malawi's Minister of Transport and Public Works Tours Lilongwe Urban Road Project Undertaken by China Jiangxi International

On 17th May, 2026, Minister of Transport and Public Works of Republic of Malawi Hon. Jappie Mahango toured the Crossroads–Junction Murray Road Capacity Improvement Project in Liongwe city undertaken by China Jiangxi International Economic and Technical Cooperation Co., Ltd.. He was accompanied by Mr. Joel Longwe, Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Roads Authority, the Project Resident Engineer, and representatives of the company. The Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) provided full coverage of the tour.

During the tour, Hon. Mhango inspected the ongoing construction works and gained a detailed understanding of the project status. He expressed appreciation for the company's efforts in overcoming difficulties, carrying out well-organized construction, and delivering the project to high standards. He called on relevant government authorities to strengthen coordination and address the Contractor's challenges to ensure a smooth execution and timely completion of the project.

Located at Lilongwe's Central Business District(CBD) and constituting a critical section of M1 corridor, the project has been prioritized as a key livelihood project by the government of Malawi, noting that the timely completion of the project will significantly ease traffic congestion in the capital and bring enormous economic and social benefits to the national development.
